TRAVELERS GUIDE

In Port au Choix, where we stayed at Jeannie's Sunrise Bed & Breakfast, which doubles as a beauty salon, we were treated to delicious homemade jams made of indigenous berries, including partridge-berry and bake-apples.

Letters to the Bed & Breakfast/ Country Inns Association from our guests

To whom it may concern:

We would like to nominate Jeannie's Sunrise Bed & Breakfast for your PRIDE award for some of the following reasons;

We enjoyed all our overnight stops and most were excellent but for the above stated reasons we found Jeannie's exceptional. She epitomizes a delightful hostess of a charming bed and breakfast.

To whom it may concern:

We have just returned from a two week trip to your province. We flew to Deer Lake (two couples), rented a van and basically circled most of the island and then flew back from St. John's. We enjoyed a nearly perfect trip. The people were so special, they were the highlight of the trip-their friendliness, hospitality and genuine welcome even though we were from away.

Both couples have traveled quite extensively and we would like to commend you on your Bed and Breakfast guide. Wed used it each day and were comforted that your ratings assured us of a good stop each night, sight unseen. Every place was clean and comfortable and had gracious and friendly hosts. you obviously had a network that encourages Newfoundland hospitality, local foods and traditions.

We will not be so rude as to mention and negatives about any of our guests homes, however, we could like to mention some of the positive.

JEANNIE'S SUNRISE BED AND BREAKFAST, Port au Choix. This was a delightful and accidental find. We were charmed and made to feel instantly at home. We made a point to alter our plans to ensure that we stayed there again on our return from the North Shore. Compared to other places where we stayed, Jeannie's was much underrated. She had more facilities in each room than we had the time to enjoy (ie; TV, phones) Her prices were also very reasonable in comparison to others.

We consider Jeannie's worth of a nomination for your Pride Award. Once again we commend you for an excellent service and useful publications. We hope to return to Newfoundland once again.

Yours Truly,

R.R. Echo Bay, Ontario

Letter from guest

Hi Jeannie,

Promised we would drop you a line to let you know our activities since leaving you in September. We are a little late.

We stayed in Nfld until the 8th of October and then returned to New Brunswick. Had a nice stay. Our visit to the Northern Peninsula and our stay with you was the highlight of our vacation. It was a great trip and your hospitality and find Bed and Breakfast was big part of it. We feel your B & B should be the stand to which Tourism Nfld should follow. We highly recommend your B & B and you as hostess.

If you are ever in N.B., ensure you look us up. I hope that you have a great Christmas and a successful New Year.

Yours,

Steve and Anne- Quispamsis, N.B

NEWFOUNDLAND HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER FOR TOURISTS

Jeannie's Sunrise Bed and Breakfast in Port au Choix on the French (West) coast of Newfoundland overlooks the harbour where the rising sun shines on departing shrimp boats. Forty-five-hundred-year-old remains of 160 members of an extinct culture, the Archaic Maritime Indians, were found in the field next to Jeannie's in 1967. The village had still been an out port only a few years earlier.
